Another Hillmorton Primary Blog

End of a fantastic year…

Well done to everyone on a great year 4. You are all absolute stars. I have greatly enjoyed having you all as my class. A big thanks to all parents and carers for your continued support over the year. Have a lovely summer everyone!

Roman Workshop

We had a great day at Rugby art gallery and museum last week. We took part in a quiz where we needed to look carefully at the information to find the answers. We worked as archeologists to look carefully at different artefacts to find out more about the Romans. We even got to try on roman dress!

I can animate…

Today we focused on creating the scene for our animations. Once they were done we learned how to set up the program ‘I can animate’ and the webcam. We have started our slide shots and look forward to learning how to add voice overs to tell the story.

Animation project

This week we have been planning our animation project. We have split the story of ‘The Elephants Child’ into parts so we can each animate part if the story. We have created backgrounds for our scene. We enjoyed learning about the artistic style of Henri Rousseau.

Save the rainforest!

We have learned so much this week about why we should save the rainforest and we began to organise an argument for protecting these fragile environments. As our points need to be backed up with evidence we used the iPads to find facts to support our key points.

Rainforests in focus! Interview with Abi, Charlie, Meg, Matthew and Amelia

What have you learned about the rainforest today?

25% of our medicines comes from the rainforest – Meghan

It’s amazing how people live there but their homes are sadly being chopped down for resources – Amelia

Trees are important as they provide oxygen which helps us breathe – Charlie

Now I know how important rain forests are. At the start of our topic I didn’t know this. They are the lungs of our planet – Abi

Trees take in CO2, this is carbon dioxide and this helps clean the atmosphere but if you chop down trees CO2 is released into the atmosphere – Matthew

An added comment from Josh –
Rainforests are great fun!!

Germination update…

Today we gathered all our seeds in and made our own observations and conclusions to answer our key question, What affects germination?

Interview with Scarlett, Joshua Ch, Lucie and Ryan.

What we found out:
If you don’t put water and soil in it may try to grow but it won’t germinate healthily.
In order for the seeds to germinate you need a bit of all the factors! These are water, soil, light and warmth.
The seeds in the fridge tried to grow because it had soil and water but there was no light and warmth! It took 8 days for tiny shoots to appear.

What we enjoyed:
Working as a team
Making our own choices
Checking on our experiments every two days
Learning something new by finding out for ourselves
